Bessent: 'I Would Hope That This Would Light a Fire Under the EU' -- WSJ

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said President Trump thinks trade-deal proposals from the European Union "have not been of the same quality" as those from other trading partners.

"The 90-day pause on the April 2nd tariffs was based on countries or trade blocks coming to us and negotiating in good faith," Bessent said Friday morning on Fox News, shortly after Trump threatened to impose a 50% levy on imports from the EU.

"I would hope that this would light a fire under the EU," Bessent said.
