FirstEnergy Corp. subsidiary Mon Power is actively deploying an aerial saw to trim trees along more than 230 miles of high-voltage transmission lines in West Virginia. This innovative approach, which utilizes a helicopter equipped with a saw, is aimed at maintaining proper clearance and ensuring the reliability of power lines in hard-to-access areas. The initiative covers 19 counties, including Berkeley, Doddridge, and Hampshire, and is scheduled for completion by the end of the year. The aerial operations are conducted by Aerial Solutions and are dependent on favorable weather conditions. Meanwhile, ground contractors have already trimmed trees along over 1,700 miles of distribution lines, with plans to complete an additional 3,500 miles by year-end. Mon Power services approximately 395,000 customers across 34 counties in West Virginia.
