The US International Trade Commission found that low-cost imports of crystalline silicon photovoltaic cells from four Southeast Asian countries materially harmed or threatened domestic solar panel manufacturers.
The Commerce Department will enforce countervailing and antidumping tariffs on imports from Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam following the ITC vote, the commission said Tuesday in a statement.
The trade case was brought last year by South Korea's Hanwha Qcells, Tempe, Arizona-based First Solar (FLSR) and several smaller producers, who sought to protect major investments in US solar manufacturing, Reuters reported.
First Solar shares rose 3.2% in recent Tuesday trading. Enphase Energy (ENPH) gained 1.7%, and Sunrun (RUN) jumped 5.4%.
