L3Harris Settles DOJ's Faulty Jet Pricing Claims for $62 Million

The defense contractor tapped to overhaul President Trump's new presidential jet will pay $62 million to settle Justice Department allegations that it misled the government about its pricing during contract negotiations more than a decade ago.

The Justice Department claimed Thursday that L3 Technologies, which became L3Harris after merging with Harris Corp. in 2019, failed to provide accurate and complete pricing data when it was making communications equipment for various Defense Department agencies between 2006 and 2014.

Doing so violated the False Claims Act and Truth in Negotiations Act, the Justice Department said. It also eroded public trust, according to Jeffery Herrin at the Air Force Office of Special Investigations.

L3Harris doesn't admit liability for the government's claims, according to a court filing. It has agreed to pay $62 million to settle the allegations, including $40 million in restitution. A representative for the company didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Wall Street Journal reported in early May that the government has commissioned L3Harris to retrofit a Boeing 747 previously used by the Qatari government so that it can serve as Trump's Air Force One.
