Telus is ramping up its network ambitions, pledging more than 70 million Canadian dollars ($51 billion) in spending over the next five years to grow its infrastructure and operations across Canada.

The Vancouver, British Columbia-based telecom giant said Tuesday it plans to push deeper into fiber-optic expansion in British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec and Ontario, aiming to boost residential and business internet access. It's also adding 500 new wireless sites nationwide to expand coverage.

Beyond connectivity, Telus said it will invest in developing its two artificial-intelligence factories in Kamloops, British Columbia and in Rimouski, Quebec as part of its bet on AI as a core pillar of future growth.
