Air New Zealand Limited is expanding its services by introducing a domestic jet service between Hamilton and Christchurch starting from 18 September. This marks the return of jets to Hamilton for the first time in 25 years, utilizing a 171-seat Airbus A320 to meet the increasing demand on this regional route. The new service will complement existing ATR 72 turboprop flights, adding approximately 25,000 seats annually. Chief Executive Officer Greg Foran highlights that this expansion is part of the airline's strategy to enhance connectivity, particularly between the North and South Islands, and support regional growth. Waikato Regional Airport Chief Executive Mark Morgan lauds the move as a significant boost for the region, enhancing access and connectivity. The revised schedule includes departures from Christchurch to Hamilton and vice versa on multiple days, offering flexibility for business and leisure travelers.
