Texas Governor Greg Abbott has signed an online child safety bill that requires app stores to verify users' ages.
The new law, set to take effect Jan. 1, 2026, also requires minors to secure consent from a parent or guardian before they can download or purchase apps, or make a purchase in apps, according to the governor's office.
Multiple media reports said that Apple (AAPL) and Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google have opposed the bill on privacy grounds.
Apple and Google didn't immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
