U.S. natural gas inventories probably saw a below-average increase last week as warmer spring weather in parts of the U.S., including Texas, led to an increase in power-sector demand.
Natural gas in underground storage is expected to have risen by 93 billion cubic feet to 2,468 Bcf in the week ended May 23, according to the average estimate of nine analysts, brokers and traders surveyed by The Wall Street Journal. Estimates range from an increase of 83 Bcf to an increase of 101 Bcf.
The expected injection is smaller than the five-year average injection for the week of 98 Bcf, and would narrow the surplus over the average to 85 Bcf from 90 Bcf the week before.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration is scheduled to release the weekly storage data on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. EDT.
