SoftBank and U.S.-based Intel are jointly developing a new type of high-capacity memory for use in artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors, the Nikkei reported.

The University of Tokyo and other institutions are also participating, with the goal of putting the technology into practical use during the 2020s.

This memory is designed to instantly process large volumes of data during AI computations, while reducing power consumption to half that of current products. The highly efficient memory is expected to contribute to building AI infrastructure in Japan.
