Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. has announced a new partnership with China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) to refuel certain flights departing from Hong Kong International Airport with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This initiative marks an expansion of Cathay Pacific's use of SAF, which is produced and blended with conventional aviation fuel by Sinopec. The collaboration highlights the increasing role of SAF produced in the Chinese Mainland within the global supply chain. This move follows Cathay Pacific's previous adoption of SAF at airports in Amsterdam and London, as well as recent agreements with South Korean fuel supplier SK Energy to supply SAF from 2025 to 2027. The partnership with Sinopec aims to enhance the SAF value chain in the Chinese Mainland, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and supporting Hong Kong's status as a leading international aviation hub.
