Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has partnered with Smart Wires to enhance grid reliability and meet the energy demands of data centers in San Jose. By deploying advanced power flow control technology, Smart Wires will help PG&E mitigate thermal overloads and increase capacity at the Los Esteros electric substation by more than 100 megawatts. This measure addresses a projected load increase of up to 500 MW due to data center growth, providing a near-term solution before a new transmission line is completed in 2032. The installation of SmartValve devices, expected by late 2025, will reinforce critical infrastructure, ensuring efficient power distribution for these data centers.
