The Japanese government announced a strategy to enhance its intellectual property competitiveness by promoting artificial intelligence and attracting foreign talent, said the Mainichi on Tuesday, citing Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.

This 2025 intellectual property plan aims to leverage the global popularity of Japanese anime and cultural content to boost regional economies, anticipating a total economic impact of around 1 trillion yen, said the news wire.

Ishiba emphasized the critical role of intellectual property and technology in ensuring Japan's corporate competitiveness and earning power, added the report.

The strategy sets an ambitious target to elevate Japan's standing in the World Intellectual Property Organization's Global Innovation Index to fourth or higher by 2035 significantly up from its 2024 ranking of 13th, the report said.
