The materials sector posted gains in line with the broader market on Tuesday.
Chemicals companies shined. Dow and Dupont both added more than 1.5%.
The American steel industry continued to rally in the wake of the White House's rollout of higher tariffs on foreign steel. Steel Dynamics, Nucor and Cleveland-Cliffs all finished solidly higher.
