CAE has appointed Matthew Bromberg to succeed long-time Chief Executive Marc Parent, effective Aug. 13.

Bromberg brings a wealth of experience to the maker of flight-simulation and training systems, serving in commercial and military aerospace markets for major global publicly traded companies, CAE said Monday.

Since 2022, Bromberg has headed Global Operations for aerospace and defense-technology companies Northrop Grumman, Falls Church, Va., and before that he was president of military engines for aerospace and defence giant RTX, formerly Raytheon Technologies. From 2013 to 2017 he was president of commercial aftermarket operations for the aircraft engine company Pratt & Whitney.

In mid-November, Parent said he was leaving the company in August, capping a two-decade career at CAE. At the time, CAE engaged an executive search firm to look for a successor, considering both internal and external candidates with the assistance of Parent.

L.A.-based investment firm Browning West, which holds a 4.3% stake in CAE, also wanted a say in the leadership pick, saying then that the company had underperformed over the past five years. Browning West has had past successes in board reshuffles, having had replaced the entire board of apparel company Gildan Activewear with an eight-member slate after a shareholder battle over the firing of CEO Glenn Chamandy.

CAE didn't disclose its shareholders' involvement in the decision-making process.

Additionally, CAE also said that it has appointed Calin Rovinescu as executive chairman. Rovinescu, who formerly headed up Canada's largest airline, Air Canada, was originally appointed in February as independent director and chair of the board.
