Trump-Musk Fallout Fuels Hopes Washington Will Lose Interest in Advertisers Who Ditched X

One group that's hopeful about the Trump-Musk rift: advertisers, who had been in Elon Musk's crosshairs since exiting X en masse shortly after the billionaire businessman bought the social-media site then known as Twitter.

Musk has sued individual brands and some advertiser consortia, and last month the Federal Trade Commission opened an investigation into whether Media Matters helped coordinate an advertiser boycott.

"The clear rift forming between them removes much of the political weight behind Musk's litigious vendetta against advertisers and the associations representing their interests," said Ruben Schreurs, chief executive of Ebiquity, a consulting firm that works with advertisers. "Those on the receiving end of his lawsuits will likely breathe a bit easier as a result."
