China Isotope & Radiation Corporation $(CIRC.UK)$ has announced its first irradiation station cooperation project in Peru, marking a significant milestone in its expansion into Latin America. The Beijing branch of CIRC has entered into a purchase intention contract with a renowned Peruvian agricultural enterprise based in Lima. This collaboration involves the construction of a gamma irradiation facility designed to have a loading capacity of 1 million curies, aimed at preserving organic fruits and vegetables to enhance their shelf life and improve export efficiency. The project fills a gap in irradiation application in Peru and is expected to be the first commercial gamma irradiation facility in the country. This initiative is part of the Belt and Road Initiative, fostering deeper exchanges and cooperation between China and Peru in nuclear technology and agriculture.
