Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng will visit the United Kingdom from June 8 to 13, during which time he will also participate in trade talks with the U.S.

The talks are scheduled on Monday in London, and were announced by U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday. Trump said Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer would participate in the talks.

"Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng will visit the UK from June 8 to 13. While in the UK, he will hold the first meeting of the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism with the U.S. side," Lin Jian, Spokesperson of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.

The trade talks will come after Trump this week said he held a "very good phone call" with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The upcoming meeting in London will be the second between U.S. and Chinese officials since discussions held in Switzerland in mid-May. Those talks had yielded in a surprise temporary trade truce.

But Trump last Friday reignited trade tensions between the countries after accusing China of violating that truce.

Wall Street on Friday ended the week with solid gains, as sentiment was boosted by trade developments and positive labor market data.
