American Power Group Corporation $(APG)$, a leader in dual fuel diesel engine conversion technology, has announced the success of its 2010 diesel engine conversion project for Penn South, an affordable cooperative housing community in Manhattan, New York City. The project involved converting several 1.2MW CAT diesel engines to run on a dual fuel solution, resulting in significant cost savings and emission reduction benefits by utilizing cleaner burning natural gas. Over the past 15 years, the dual fuel generators have been operating reliably with an average of 50% fuel displacement. Ed Johnson, the Plant Manager at Penn South, highlighted the dual benefit of lowered energy costs and reduced harmful emissions achieved through APG's technology. Chuck Coppa, APG's CEO/CFO, expressed satisfaction with the project's success, emphasizing the critical role of reliability in providing primary power over an extended period. Coppa also noted the broader success of APG's stationary/off-road dual fuel installations, which have collectively reached an estimated 25 million cumulative run hours in the oil and gas sector. Looking ahead, APG sees substantial opportunities for its dual fuel conversion technology in large, prime power applications, especially as many electrical grids face capacity challenges or require upgrades.
