The AES Corporation has successfully completed the construction of the 1,000 MW Bellefield 1 project, marking the first phase of what is set to be the largest solar-plus-storage facility in the United States. Located in Kern County, California, Bellefield is a two-phase project, each phase comprising 500 MW of solar power and 500 MW of four-hour battery-based energy storage, culminating in a total of 2,000 MW of installed capacity. This milestone is achieved under a 15-year contract with Amazon. The project is expected to generate electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of 467,000 homes, significantly reducing CO₂ emissions by over 1 million metric tons annually. AES's implementation of Maximo, an AI-enabled robotic system, has enhanced the efficiency and safety of the project's construction. The completion of the first phase has created more than 700 union jobs, with an additional 1,000 jobs anticipated during the construction peak of the second phase, which is slated for completion in 2026. AES's commitment to delivering renewable energy projects is underscored by its contractual arrangements with major global corporations, totaling 10.1 GW, including the Bellefield project.
