BlockBeats News reported on June 15, quoting Bitcoin.com, that El Salvador's cryptocurrency remittance volume dropped by 44.5% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2025. In the first four months of this year, El Salvadoran residents received only $16 million in cryptocurrency remittances, significantly lower than the $28.83 million received during the same period last year.

Analysts believe that El Salvador's recent decision to abandon Bitcoin's status as legal tender and to "isolate" Bitcoin from the public sector may have contributed to this outcome. Additionally, the dissolution of the state-promoted digital wallet, Chivo Wallet, which was intended for remittances, could also be one of the factors behind the decline in cryptocurrency remittances. Since reaching a historical peak of accounting for 5% of total remittance inflows in October 2021, the usage rate of cryptocurrency remittances has been on a downward trend.
