April Townsend, a hair stylist in Cheney, Wash., never considered herself very political until she read the conservative blueprint Project 2025 last fall. Since President Trump's inauguration in January, she's attended seven protests in nearby Spokane. Townsend is used to being heckled while protesting in a county Trump won by about five percentage points in November, but she's noticed the number of hecklers has gradually dropped with each demonstration. "I never expected it to be so big," she said of the bustling crowd Saturday afternoon.
Townsend was frightened by the shootings of two Minnesota lawmakers, one fatally, earlier today, which authorities say was politically motivated. The events, she said, only galvanized her to attend the No Kings event-which has now turned into a march. "The truth is, we don't have a choice," Townsend said.
