NEW YORK -- American Honda Motor Co., a U.S. affiliate of Honda Motor Co., announced Tuesday it will begin mass production of a single-seater electric delivery vehicle in summer 2026. The vehicle will be sold to logistics companies and other entities in North America and Europe, but sales in Japan have not yet been decided.

The vehicle, called the "Fastport eQuad," can carry a maximum of about 300 kilograms of cargo. It is equipped with pedals and runs on a combination of human and electric power. It is designed to run in bicycle lanes, with a maximum speed of 20 kph and a maximum range of 37 kilometers. A cargo box can be attached to the vehicle.

Two models, large and small, will be produced at a plant in Ohio. Pricing has not yet been determined, and there are currently no plans to sell the vehicles to individuals.

Honda said it has decided to enter the market against a backdrop of growing demand for deliveries resulting from the expansion of internet shopping, as well as the need for new methods of transportation to deliver packages and avoid urban traffic jams.
