Fox acquired Caliente TV, a broadcasting platform in Mexico, for an undisclosed sum.

The news, sports, and entertainment company said Thursday that the acquisition expands its sports broadcasting footprint in the country with more streaming content and a broader sports rights portfolio.

Fox said the move supports the company's plan to develop a multi-platform business including a new Pay TV channel and a subscription video-on-demand platform that will join the existing ad-supported video-on-demand platform Tubi.

As part of the bundle, Fox gets broadcast rights to six Liga MX men's clubs including Club Leon, Club Pachuca and Club Tijuana.

Other broadcast rights it will get are the U.K.'s Premier League and the FA Cup, as well as the UEFA Champions League and the Coppa Italia.

"FOX's investment to acquire Caliente TV reflects our commitment to building a leading sports streaming business in Mexico with massive audience reach, a robust sports rights portfolio and an impressive roster of exclusive sports leagues and talent," Managing Director of Fox's Latin America Region Carlos Martinez said.

Fox and The Wall Street Journal's parent company, News Corp, share common ownership.
