Hawaiian Electric Industries Inc. has announced the deployment of drones as part of its wildfire safety strategy across Molokai, as well as Maui, Lanai, Hawaii Island, and Oahu. These unmanned aircrafts are being utilized for aerial inspections of electrical infrastructure in areas identified as being at risk for wildfires. The drones play a crucial role in quickly identifying potential issues that could lead to wildfires, thereby enhancing safety measures. Hawaiian Electric's Unmanned Aerial Systems program is fully compliant with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, ensuring that the drones are operated safely and efficiently. The company has partnered with E2 to conduct these inspections, which are scheduled to occur Mondays through Fridays between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. This initiative is part of Hawaiian Electric's broader commitment to safeguarding the public and its infrastructure against the threat of wildfires.
