Low Interest in NBA Finals Could Dampen Betting Company Earnings -- Market Talk

1303 ET - The NBA Finals series between two small market teams that failed to drive broad interest wasn't a cash cow for sports-betting companies, Benchmark analyst Mike Hickey says. The series between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers, which ended Sunday, generated historically low ratings. Low viewership limited casual betting activity in what is usually a high-margin, high frequency event, Hickey says. The sluggish series will likely contribute to mixed results for betting platform Flutter when it reports earnings in August, he says. Flutter did get some boost from the New York market when the Knicks made a long run during the playoffs. Flutter's quarter-to-date handle was up 5.4% through mid-June, Hickey says.
