Shares of power producers rose, remaining one of the leading sectors for the year to date, amid ongoing appetite for defensive investments.

The SPDR Select Sector Utilities exchange-traded fund, which tracks the utilities industry group of the S&P 500, has risen 7% for 2025 so far, significantly higher than the 3.8% return for the S&P 500.

Spain's Iberdrola said it appointed Pedro Azagra, a company veteran who most recently led its U.S. business Avangrid, as the group's new chief executive, replacing Armando Martinez.
