BOE Could Slow Pace of Quantitative Tightening -- Market Talk

1223 GMT - The Bank of England could announce in September that it will reduce its quantitative tightening program, slowing the pace at which it unwinds its bond holdings, MUFG's Derek Halpenny says in a note. The changes would take effect from October. BOE Governor Andrew Bailey on Tuesday hinted at a possible change to the central bank's quantitative tightening policy, Halpenny says. "The hints from Governor Bailey will certainly lift expectations further that the pace of quantitative tightening will be cut." All-else-equal this should be positive for U.K. government bonds, he says. The 30-year gilt yields climb 3 basis points to last trade at 5.220%, Tradeweb data show. (miriam.mukuru@wsj.com)
