GE Vernova Inc. has announced a new contract with Rio Tinto to modernize eight turbine-alternator units at the Isle Maligne hydropower plant in Quebec, Canada. This project, part of a longstanding collaboration between the two companies, aims to enhance the performance and extend the lifespan of the nearly 100-year-old facility. The modernization will support Rio Tinto's supply of energy to its five low-carbon aluminum smelters in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region. The first unit's modernization is expected to begin in 2026, with the final unit scheduled for completion by 2032. The initiative is designed to optimize project schedules, reduce ownership costs, and ensure efficient execution.
