Verizon Communications (VZ), Nokia (NOK) and Thames Freeport said Wednesday they have agreed to a partnership to deploy Verizon's private 5G networks at logistics, manufacturing and technology sites along the UK's Thames River estuary.
The networks will support an economic revival project for the maritime logistics hub, the companies said.
The Verizon networks will allow for intensive data and application capabilities including AI-driven data analytics, predictive maintenance, process automation, autonomous vehicle control and safety monitoring, the companies said.
Nokia will provide hardware and software for the networks, the companies said.
The sites where the network will be deployed include DP World London Gateway and DP World Logistics Park, a deep-sea container port and logistics facility with a rail terminal, the Port of Tilbury, and the Ford Dagenham manufacturing site in London.
