Apple Sued by Swiss Privacy Tech Firm Proton for Alleged Antitrust Violations

Apple (AAPL) was sued by Swiss privacy tech firm Proton, which filed a class-action complaint accusing the company of violating US antitrust law.

In a complaint filed Monday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California, Proton said it is representing a class of developers harmed by Apple's alleged anti-competitive conduct. The company accuses Apple of forcing developers to use its in-app payment system and charging a 30% commission on most transactions.

Proton said it filed the lawsuit to help ensure any settlement leads to meaningful changes in App Store rules rather than cosmetic fixes. The company is also seeking a permanent end to what it described as anti-competitive behavior in Apple's control over iOS app distribution.

The case is related to an earlier class-action lawsuit filed in May by the Korean Publishers Association and other plaintiffs. Proton said it acted now to ensure that any resolution of that case does not bind developers without securing meaningful reforms.

Apple did not immediately reply to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
