Amazon.com Inc. has announced the opening of its latest fulfillment center in Nagoya, Japan, which incorporates several sustainability features aimed at reducing carbon emissions. The facility utilizes geothermal technology for heating and cooling, leveraging the Earth's underground temperature. It also features one of the largest onsite solar power systems at a logistics facility in Japan, with solar panels installed on the roof, in the parking lot, and vertically on the building's walls. The solar panels have a combined capacity of 5.5 MW, and the facility includes a 2.9 MWh battery storage system to provide carbon-free energy when solar generation is not possible. The center is projected to earn the "Zero Carbon Certification" from Living Future by the end of 2026. Amazon's initiatives are part of its broader commitment to sustainable operations and investment in carbon-free energy technologies.
