Market Chatter: Qantas Airways CEO Says Cyber Attack Does Not Suggest Call Center Location Less Secure, The Australian Reports

Qantas Airways (ASX:QAN) Chief Executive Vanessa Hudson said that the breach of a Salesforce platform used by the airline's call center in the Philippines that led to data from six million customers being stolen did not necessarily mean that the location was less secure and such a cyber attack could have happened anywhere, The Australian reported Monday.

"It's something we have to manage as modern organisations and we have to learn from these events when they happen," Hudson said.

The firm will "review everything" as part of a probe into the cyber attack, and it plans to further strengthen its systems and operating models, she added.

The Australian Federal Police confirmed it was investigating the cyber attack.

Virgin Australia (ASX:VGN) was also said to be reviewing, monitoring, and testing its information security settings.

The publication said that it was understood that the cyber criminal was given access to the database after an interaction with a call centre operator.
