Aneka Tambang (Persero) (ASX:ATM) and Indonesia Battery (IBC) are developing a series of integrated electric vehicle battery ecosystem projects spanning upstream to downstream, in collaboration with CBL, according to a Tuesday Australian bourse filing.

The company has formed a joint venture with CBL for nickel mining operations and is building rotary kiln-electric furnace (RKEF) and high-pressure acid leach (HPAL) processing plants, as well as the Buli Industrial Area (KIB). These developments will be supported by clean energy sources, an integrated water system, and a cloud-based control center.

The RKEF plant will have an annual production capacity of 88,000 tons of nickel, while the HPAL plant will have an annual capacity of 55,000 tons of nickel.

The KIB plant is designed to process 16,000 tons of nickel sulfate annually, producing 30,000 tons of precursors and 30,000 tons of cathode active material, the filing added.

The company said semi-finished materials will be transported westward to Karawang from East Halmahera, where IBC and CBL are building a battery cell factory with an initial capacity of 6.9 gigawatt-hours, in phase 1, which is projected to scale up to 15 GWh within five years. This production line is expected to begin operations in 2026, producing cells for EVs and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for domestic and export markets.
