Artificial intelligence companies could face new regulations after California State Senator Scott Wiener introduced a bill that will require them to publicly release their safety and security protocols in assessing an AI model's potential catastrophic risks.

The security requirement is part of amendments announced Tuesday to the Senate Bill No. 53 that Wiener proposed earlier this year, which would also require companies to report "critical safety incidents," among others.

The amended bill is expected to go through a California Assembly committee this month.

According to Bloomberg, companies like Meta Platforms (META), Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google, and Microsoft- (MSFT) backed OpenAI could be affected by this regulation.

Google, OpenAI, and Meta Platforms did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comments.
