WASHINGTON, July 9 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday a 50% tariff on copper, saying on social media that it would be effective August 1 and that the decision was made after a national security assessment.

Copper futures jumped 3% to all time high. Taseko Mines jumped 4.5%; Coeur Mining up 3.9%; Freeport-McMoRan up 2% in overnight trading.
