FORT SMITH, Ark.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- ArcBest Corporation (Nasdaq: ARCB) announced the completion of a pilot program assessing the performance of a Class 8 long-range electric semi-truck in its over-the-road operations. Conducted by its less-than-truckload carrier, ABF Freight, the pilot involved a Tesla Semi operating across dispatch lanes between Reno, Nevada and Sacramento, California, as well as regional routes in the Bay Area. Over the three-week period, the electric truck covered 4,494 miles, averaging 321 miles per day with an energy efficiency of 1.55 kWh per mile. The pilot highlighted the need for further development of charging infrastructure to support broader deployment on longer routes. ArcBest continues to explore the long-term viability of electric vehicles within its fleet to enhance operational efficiency and reduce emissions.
