Exclusive: McGowan exits Americas head of transactional risk role at RP Underwriting

By Isha Marathe, James Thaler

July 15 - (The Insurer) - Michael McGowan, who has served as managing director and head of Americas transactional risk at RiskPoint Group's RP Underwriting since the start of 2021, has parted ways with the managing general underwriter, sources with knowledge of the situation told The Insurer.

McGowan had been with the MGU since January 2021, and became a partner in March 2023.

Before that, he held roles at Axa XL, Chubb, Focus Financial Partners, Vinson & Elkins and Guy Carpenter.

The circumstances under which McGowan left have not been disclosed to The Insurer.

McGowan declined to comment.

RP Underwriting did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

RiskPoint is one of the largest MGUs in Europe. It operates as RiskPoint in Europe and Asia and RP Underwriting in the rest of the world.

In February, Program Manager reported that RP Underwriting added Ascot capacity to the panel of U.S. carrier partners supporting its transactional risk program.

The partnership meant that, from January 1, AM Best A-rated Ascot Insurance Company and Ascot Specialty Insurance Company capacity have been supporting RP Underwriting’s North American representations and warranties coverage, along with its tax liability product.

In addition to Ascot, its panel of capacity providers includes Arch Specialty Insurance Company, Allianz Global Risk, Allied World Assurance Company (US) Inc and HDI Global Specialty SE.
