TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR), through the working committee for the Broadcasting Bill, held a public hearing with several social media platforms, including Google, TikTok, Meta, and YouTube Indonesia.

The meeting intended to gather input on the bill from these platforms. "What they recommend for us to consider to improve the law itself," said Commission I member Oleh Soleh in a meeting at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.

Commission I will give the floor for each platform to give their suggestions, which will be used as considerations in drafting the Broadcasting Bill.

The working committee on Monday also held a public hearing on the Broadcasting Bill with several other parties, including the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Sahabat Peradaban Bangsa (SPB), and the Indonesian Content Creators Association (AKKSI).

"Kadin submitted a letter on equal treatment between the broadcasting industry and multi-platform broadcasting service providers. From SPB, the theme is positive broadcasting content by the Indonesian multi-platform broadcasting service providers, and from AKKSI regarding the ethical conduct of multi-platform broadcasting service providers in Indonesia," said Deputy Chair of House Commission I Dave Laksono while leading the meeting, as quoted by Antara.

He mentioned that thus far, the Broadcasting Bill, which has been in progress since 2012, has undergone its third amendment. This is because the bill continues to be adjusted to several developments, including the broadcasting-related articles under the Job Creation Law.

"There are several things related to multiplexing that were previously ruled under this bill but removed, regulated in the Job Creation Law. However, there are still equally important substances that we need to decide on in this Broadcasting Bill," said Dave.

Although not yet providing a detailed target, he hopes that the House this period could complete the Broadcasting Bill. "But the timeline has not been determined yet," he said.
