Market Chatter: Juul Labs Wins FDA Clearance to Keep E-Cigarettes on US Market

Juul Labs has received authorization from the US Food and Drug Administration to keep selling its e-cigarettes, including its original device and tabacco and methol refill pods, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The decision comes five years after Juul first submitted its products for federal review, the report said.

The approval marks a key turnaround for the company, which was nearly pushed into bankruptcy after the FDA ordered a sales ban in 2022 due to unresolved concerns about its toxicology data. Although that ban was quickly put on hold, it triggered a financial crisis and waves of lawsuits, according to the report.

Juul Labs and the FDA didn't immediately reply to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
