WILMINGTON, Del. -- Current and former Meta Platforms directors and several shareholders agreed to settle a lawsuit over the company's response to the Cambridge Analytica scandal, avoiding the need for current and former board members to take the stand.

A group of company shareholders in 2018 sued some members of the board of what was then known as Facebook, including director Marc Andreessen, CEO Mark Zuckerberg and former COO Sheryl Sandberg. The plaintiffs said the directors didn't ensure the company protected its users' data, leading U.K. data firm Cambridge Analytica to improperly access information from millions of Facebook users.

One of the trial lawyers told the judge at the beginning of what was supposed to be a long day of testimony Thursday that both sides had agreed to settle. He didn't outline the terms of the deal. The judge, Chancellor Kathaleen McCormick, congratulated both sides and said she looked forward to seeing the terms.

Venture capitalist Andreessen, as well as Zuckerberg and Sandberg, had been expected to testify in the coming days in Delaware's chancery court.

Meta didn't immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday.
