The Kansai Electric Power (TYO:9503) will resume voluntary on-site surveys to assess the feasibility of constructing a successor plant to the Mihama Nuclear Power Station Unit 1, after suspending efforts following the 2011 Fukushima disaster.
The survey will look into the geomorphic and geological characteristics of the site to ensure compliance with new regulatory standards, according to a statement on Tuesday.
Decisions to build the successor plant will not only be based on the survey results, but also on various factors, such as the development of advanced light water reactors, regulation policy and business environment conditions.
