0645 GMT - Earnings of South Korean companies listed on the local benchmark index could improve in 3Q, likely driven by semiconductor stocks, HSBC analysts write in a research note. They expect the operating profit of Kospi-listed companies to rise 12% on quarter after falling 3% in 2Q. Higher memory-chip prices from supply constraints and robust shipments of 12-layer high-bandwidth-memory 3E products stand to be key catalysts, they say. The government-led recovery in domestic consumption and export growth are also expected to support earnings growth for consumer names, they add. HSBC maintains a buy rating on memory-chip maker SK Hynix and Hansol Chemical, a supplier of high-purity hydrogen peroxide used by chip producers, among other local stocks. (kwanwoo.jun@wsj.com)
