Market Chatter: Boeing to Seek Court Approval for $1.1 Billion 737 MAX Non-Prosecution Deal

Boeing (BA) will face a US court hearing on Aug. 28 to seek approval for a deal with the Justice Department that would allow the planemaker to avoid prosecution over the deadly 737 MAX crashes that killed 346 people, Reuters reported Friday, quoting a US judge.

Under the agreement, Boeing will pay $1.1 billion, including $444.5 million to a crash victims fund and more than $455 million to enhance compliance, safety, and quality programs, the report added.

The deal would also relieve Boeing from independent monitoring for three years, it said, adding that Boeing had previously agreed to plead guilty to a criminal fraud charge for misleading US regulators about the 737 MAX's flight control system, but the current agreement seeks dismissal of that charge.
