0946 ET - Verizon Communications delivered promising 2Q results but they also showed the tough environment for mobile phone customers. "As expected, postpaid phone churn remained elevated this quarter, reflecting the lingering effects of our pricing actions and ongoing pressure from federal government accounts," says CEO Hans Vestberg on an analyst call. The carrier lost a net 9,000 postpaid phone connections in 2Q, missing analysts expectations that it would add a net new 13,000 connections. CFO Tony Skiadas says 2Q consumer postpaid churn remained consistent with 1Q at 90%, adding that Verizon has launched efforts to address the elevated churn. Shares tick up 2.4% to $41.80 in early trading. (denny.jacob@wsj.com; @pennedbyden)
