Coursera Shares Rally After Boosting Outlook; 2Q Loss Narrows

Shares of Coursera climbed after the global online learning platform raised its revenue guidance for this year and reported a narrower loss for the second quarter.

Shares rose 21% at $10.97 in post-market trading on Thursday, after closing the regular session up 1.3% at $9.08. The stock is up 6.8% this year through the close.

Coursera raised its revenue outlook to $738 million to $746 million for this year, from its prior forecast of $720 million to $730 million. Analysts polled by FactSet expect $726.8 million.

The company forecast third-quarter revenue of $188 million to $192 million. Analysts polled by FactSet expect 182.4 million.

"We are executing at a renewed and rapid pace, increasing our revenue growth to 10% year-over-year and making strong early progress in delivering more meaningful customer experiences across our platform," Chief Executive Greg Hart said.

For the second quarter, the company reported a loss of $7.8 million, or 5 cents a share, down from a loss of $22.9 million, or 15 cents a share, from the same time last year.

New registered learners totaled 7.5 million, up from a gain of 6.6 million in the same period last year.
