MW Durable-goods orders weaker in June due to planes, business investment holding up despite uncertainty

Orders for durable goods fell 9.3% in June, but most of the drop was tied to passenger planes, the Commerce Department said Friday. Outside of the transportation sector, orders rose 0.2%, the third straight monthly gain.

Economists had forecast a 11.1% drop in orders for durable goods in June because of weaker orders at Boeing.

So-called core orders, meanwhile, fell 0.7% in June after a 2% gain in the prior month. This figure omits defense and transportation and is considered a proxy for broader business investment.
