PARIS, July 31 (Reuters) - French aerospace group Safran SAF.PA said it would build a new carbon brakes factory at the Plaine de l'Ain industrial park near Lyon, marking a major investment by the company in France following a contest between sites in France, the United States and Canada.

The partially state-owned company, which builds jet engines and competes with RTX RTX.N subsidiary Collins Aerospace to sell other equipment like wheels, brakes and landing gear, said the 30,000 square meter (323,000 sq.ft) facility represented an investment of over 450 million euros ($514.4 million) once fully completed.

Safran added the new site was due to begin operations in 2030 and would enable Safran to gradually achieve an increase in volumes of 25% by 2037.

Reuters reported on Wednesday that Safran was poised to pick France as the home for its fourth such plant after a politically sensitive contest overshadowed by concerns over energy supplies.
