Infinity Mining (ASX: IMI) has utilised its extensive historical exploration database to uncover a promising high-grade gold target at the Sir Walter Scott prospect located within the company’s Cangai project in northern NSW.
Assays results from 12 new rock chips samples Infinity collected from Sir Walter Scott in July returned a maximum of 68.6 grams per tonne gold.
Infinity’s technical team is preparing to undertake a second field trip to Sir Walter Scott in the coming months to carry out detailed geological-structural mapping and surface geochemical sampling programs.
The new samples that Infinity collected from a 1-kilometre section of the northwest-trending structural corridor at Sir Walter Scott are consistent with historical anomalous rock chip gold assays.
“The confirmation of high-grade gold mineralisation at Sir Walter Scott is very encouraging,” managing director Joe Phillips said.
“These high-grade gold assay results have exceeded our expectations, making Sir Walter Scott another priority target for the company to focus on, in addition to the nearby Cangai copper mine.”
A recent Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) interpretation over the Cangai project area revealed numerous historical gold workings around Sir Walter Scott.
Sir Walter Scott lies approximately 3km south of the Cangai mine and a similar distance along strike to the southeast of Novo Resources’ (ASX: NVO) John Bull gold project.
Mined in the 1890s, Sir Walter Scott produced 1,790 ounces of gold from 2,203 tonnes of ore at an average grade of approximately 25g/t.
Historical rock chip sampling programs in the 1980s returned several high-grade gold assays up to 15.8g/t in a northwest-trending zone approximately 500m along strike.
Mr Phillips said the fact that Sir Walter Scott had seen little modern exploration since then meant the prospect had significant upside, with the potential for a larger intrusion related gold system at depth.
