Malaysian low-cost carrier AirAsia's parent company, Capital A Berhad (KLSE:CAPITALA), plans to expand its connectivity via Hong Kong, leveraging the city's role as a transit and financial hub, as it considers a potential listing next year, the South China Morning Post reported on Sunday.

According to the report, AirAsia's group Chief Commercial Officer, Amanda Woo, highlighted Hong Kong's importance as a gateway linking ASEAN and China, noting strong travel demand with over 1.2 million passengers on its Hong Kong routes last year.

The carrier currently operates 72 weekly flights from Hong Kong to key destinations including Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, and Okinawa, the report added.

Capital A Berhad announced in May that a secondary listing on the Hong Kong stock exchange is part of its broader strategy to access global capital markets.
