The Defense Department awarded two contracts valued at up to a combined $6.38 billion as it looks to bolster its threat reduction efforts and fighter jet production.

The U.S. Defense Threat Reduction Agency on Friday awarded a $3.5 billion contract to several companies, including Amentum Services, Vertex Aerospace, Jacobs Government Services, Fluor Intercontinental, Black & Veatch Special Projects and Parsons Government Services International.

Under the 10-year contract, the companies will deliver a range of services and products to provide chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threat reduction capabilities to partner nations, the Defense Department said.

Work will be performed at various locations around the world. Task orders issued under the contract may last up to five years, and may be extended up to three years. Funding will be obligated for each task order.

Also on Friday, the Defense Department awarded RTX's Pratt & Whitney unit a modification of up to $2.88 billion to its existing contract.

The modification adds scope for the production and delivery of 141 of the company's F135 propulsion systems in support of F-35 aircraft production for the Joint Strike Fighter program for the Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy, F-35 Cooperative Program Partners and Foreign Military Sales customers.

Work will be performed in East Hartford, Conn., Indianapolis, Middletown, Conn., Kent, Wash., and other locations. It is expected to be completed in February 2028.

Naval Air Systems Command in Patuxent River, Maryland, is the contracting activity.
